Plashet
1 Vs East London 1
4 - 1
After much anticipation, the start of the
2008/09 season campaign had finally arrived, Plashet travelled to
the Mile End Stadium to face East London 1’s, this was a tough
match up against an organised unit.
With some new youngsters making their debut
this season, Plashet had a slight shuffle around with their
formation. Both sides were slow to start going, but it was Plashet
who took the initiative after around 10 minutes into the game, a
pattern began to emerge as they were beginning to take more
control of the game. Immediately thereafter, Plashet opened their
goal scoring account for the season through Sukhvinder Singh after
a well worked short corner routine saw his shot rocket into the
bottom right corner of the goal. Soon later Plashet were beginning
to pass and move the ball around more comfortably and playing more
attractive hockey, Inderjeet Singh was creating openings for
himself time and time again with the aide of his talents, however
his shooting was wayward as he was looking for the perfect goal
targeting the roof of the net.
Inevitably with the squandered chances, East
London managed to pull a goal back as Plashet failed to clear an
attack which found an unmarked EL attacker in the D with all the
time in the world to rifle his shot passed the helpless Plashet
shot stopper. Not long after though, Plashet upped their game with
a barrage of shots on the EL goal, and took the lead once again
through Sukvinder with another worked short corner routine.
To the second half, EL came out of the blocks
faster as they mounted more pressure on the Plashet defenders;
however they were unable to penetrate the Plashet goal further due
to a combination of good defending and poor finishing. As the game
continued it became more stretched and Plashet were able to attack
the EL goal at will, with 10 minutes left of the game, Sandeep
Singh showed a moment of brilliance as he peeled of his marker, he
was given the ball by Mikey, as he ran into the D, he reversed
flicked the ball passed the outward rushing keeper to make it 3
– 1. With the game now in its last stages, Mikey added to the
score sheet with a superb solo effort in which he rounded 3 EL
defenders and drilled the ball home passed the keeper to ensure a
comfortable win. With many missed chances the score line could
have been far superior but was not to be.
Next week sees Plashet entertain Chelmsford
3’s, who were relegated from Div 2S last season. Check back here
to see how the warriors in orange fare…
