Plashet 1 Vs Old Southendians 1

1 - 4

This week, Plashet played host to Old Southendian, who had got off to a good start to the season and were sitting 3rd in the table with all games won thus far.

As the game got underway, Plashet were treated to a rude awakening as the opposition were well organised, playing quick, precise and pressurised hockey. With little time to settle on the ball and adjust to the game, Plashet were unable to find their natural free flowing game from the start. Within 10 to 15 minutes of the game it began to open up, although O.Southendians were working tirelessly to close down the men in orange and break down play, they were unable to really create any clear cut chances in the first half. However, Plashet were able to create chances of their own and test the exposed oppositions’ defenders on several occasions, but found the opposition goalkeeper in fine form, literally throwing his body at every shot on goal and making some miraculous saves. With around 10 minutes left of the first half, Plashet took the lead after some route one hockey, Sukhvinder Singh threw an aerial ball deep into O.S half where two defenders were unable to deal with the ball, this allowed Himmat Singh to gather the ball and drive towards the opposition goal, as the advancing keeper was about to make a challenge, Himmat slipped the ball square to Inderjeet Singh who took the ball in his stride and neatly tuck the ball into the bottom right hand corner.

To the second half, Plashet restarted the game with more purpose, the game was more open and both teams were able to attack more freely. Again, Plashet were relentless on attacking the O.S goal and had chance after chance to increase their goal tally, but it really was to be the day of the Southendian shot stopper as he kept out everything Plashet were throwing at him. With a slender 1 nil lead, and the end to end hockey being played, O.S pulled a goal back through a short corner strike, and then increased their lead shortly after to 2 – 1, after some sloppy defending from Plashet. As Plashet pushed further forward to find an equaliser, more gaps were left in the orange defence and inevitably O.S scored once again, and straight rubbed further salt into the wound when they made it 4 – 1 with 10 minutes left. Thereafter, the opposition defended deep and gave all they had to prevent Plashet from scoring any further goals, and were rewarded with a good win in this top of the table clash as they had played well for the victory.
