Plashet Vs Redbridge & Ilford 2

4 - 0

Plashet travelled to Redbridge Sports Centre in Barkingside this week, to face Redbridge & Ilford 2 for this local derby. Redbridge held a lot of memories for a lot of the Plashet players, as some of them started their hockey with this club. With close ties with some of the Redbridge players, Plashet knew this game would be an enjoyable one.

Plashet started the game with real urgency, and began looking very threatening from the first blow of the whistle. Holding onto a lot of the possession, Plashet created early chances, pushing Redbridge onto the back foot. Redbridge were struggling to get the ball out of their half, and were hitting the ball off the pitch in an attempt to break this Plashet momentum. It was inevitable, and the break through came after nearly twenty minutes of hard pressure. Inderjeet Singh played a magnificent ball through to Ajaypal Singh, who diverted the ball goal ward with a delicate touch. The keep was equal to this and made a magnificent save, but Himmat Singh was quick off the mark, and swept the rebound into the Redbridge goal. 1-0 and Plashet could breathe a sigh of relief.

Much of the pressure continued throughout the half in the Redbridge half of the pitch. It seemed as though as every minute passed, Redbridge hoped the half time whistle would go. Plashet, still pressing into the Redbridge D, soon extended their lead with a short-corner strike from Sukhwinder Singh. The half ended 2-0.

The second half started off pretty much the same way as the first, with Plashet dominating most of the play. The game itself was very well umpired, and the rhythm of the game was kept alive. Plashet continued to play top-notch hockey, in this clean and high paced contest. Redbridge failed to really trouble the Plashet defence, with very few attacking opportunities. Plashet on the other hand, were creating chances in front of goal time after time, yet they failed to add to their tally. Plashet could have easily scored into double figures, but the final ball always lacked conviction.

Plashet added a third goal to crush Redbridge further, with a great strike from Sanjeev Sharma. Manmohan Singh, one of the most senior players in the Plashet squad, soon added a fourth, from a beautifully worked out short-corner. The game ended 4-0. Plashet looked the more threatening side throughout the game, and they managed to keep a clean sheet at the end of it.
