Plashet Vs Southend 2

5 - 0

So far this season, Plashet have already stated their mark on this league, and are now proving to be the team everyone would love to beat. On this particular day, Southend were no exception, as they had a definite game plan in order to try and nick a result over the league leaders.

To their credit, Southend came out of the blocks very quickly, demonstrating some very good build up play and using the ariel ball to get through the Plashet back line and mounting some very useful attacks. Plashet definitely started this game on the back foot, as Southend came at them strongly, within a few minutes of the game, Southend managed to create 2 very useful attempts at the Plashet goal, only to be denied by the excellent heroics of the Plashet keeper; Amardeep Singh.

However it was only a short spell of pressure that Plashet had to endure, as they began to find their rhythm, and their flare players form all areas of the pitch started to create space and goal opportunities causing many problems for the Southend defenders. Following some excellent spell of possession and testing the Southend keeper from all angles, Plashet opened their goal scoring account through Inderjeet Singh with a sweetly struck reverse hit shot which flew into the top right hand corner, this was a fitting goal for the influential attacking mid-fielder as he has scored some cracking goals already this season, and is mounting a real claim for the top scorer position.

As Plashet settled themselves, their game became more familiar amongst many oppositions as they enjoyed long lengths of possession and had plenty of opportunities to increase their lead. Eventually, after being awarded their first short corner, Sukhvinder Singh doubled Plashets’ lead with a thunderous strike hitting the back board.

On various instances, Southend did try to string several passes together linking up their mid field and forward line to challenge the Plashet defence, but the Plashet defensive wall was equal to any Southend  threat on goal. However, Plashet maintained their new found confidence in the game as they surged the Southend defence time after time. Their debut right winger was the next to get himself on the score sheet, Saleem Sabri managed to twist himself onto his open side to tuck the ball away passed the Southend keeper from 3 yards out.

Moments after the restart, Plashets’ dominance on the game gave them an even further lead, this time it was the turn of Daljeet Singh, who self admittedly stated he is still far from his best form this season. In this attack, Daljeet found space inside the area to get an excellent reverse stick strike in from an acute angle, the ball pinged off the underside of the crossbar and nestled in the back of the Southend goal. Four nil at half time and the question was how many more goals could Plashet score to finish the afternoon.

The second half got underway, setting much the same pattern as the first half, the game was virtually played in the Southend half. Plashet did take their foot off the gas, as they concentrated on holding the ball and switching the play as frequently as possible, although they still created many chances to score further goals, only thanks to the Southend keeper and defence was this prevented.

The men in orange were  awarded a flurry of short corners, only to be denied by the Southend keeper and by Plashet themselves as they tried to be far too intricate in putting the ball in the back of the net. Finally after various attempts, Plashet scored from one of their short corners, as the ball was slipped to Sukhvinder Singh, he tried to place his effort to the right of the keeper with a flick, the ball was initially going wide of the target and was swiftly volleyed into the back of the net by Saleem Sabri who rounded off a superb debut performance with 2 goals.

Many more chances followed for Plashet and their defensive line were enjoying a more attacking game as they were fairly redundant in their defensive duties. The final minutes of the game saw Daljeet once again in the thick of the action, his sweetly struck shot from the top of the ‘D’ was neatly stopped off the line by none other than his attacking team mate; Himmat Singh, we can only assume that Himmat was trying to deflect the shot goal bounds which ended up as being one of the saves of the game.

Five nil winners and Plashet still remain 5 points clear of the second placed team. The next chapter, sees Plashet take on Havering, which will be a game the men in orange will be relishing, and can only hope the game provides more free flowing hockey as the Havering guys are quite partial to a more physical game...
