Plashet
1 Vs Saffron Walden 2
15th November 2008
5 - 1
Plashet travelled to Saffron Walden with a
view to pick up a much needed win after losing ground on the
leaders following some disastrous results from previous weeks.
The game started off well for the men in
orange against a young and well organised Saffron Walden side.
Plashet stroked the ball around the opposition with a sprinkling
of individual skill throughout the entirety of the game which
enabled them to create a hatful of goal scoring chances. Himmat
Singh opened the scoring for Plashet with a sublime piece of skill
after some neat build up play between Sanjeev and Sant Singh, the
ball was squared to Himmat who bamboozled 2 defenders with his
first touch and then rounded the keeper to slot the ball into the
empty goal. As pressure mounted on the hosts, Plashet increased
their lead mid way through the first half, this time Sant Singh
showed great composure in the D after some neat stick work created
a shooting opportunity which he took very well from an acute
angle; the ball was struck with venom which beat the keeper at his
near post. With the first half drawing to an end, Himmat increased
his goals tally as he finished of a lovely move which involved the
majority of the team, the ball was eventually put into the goal
after a cheeky one, two between Inderjeet Singh and Himmat carved
open the Saffron Walden defence and eased the ball past the
helpless goal keeper.
Plashet continued the second half as they
finished the first; they retained possession well in key areas of
the pitch. Again they created many chances in the opening minutes
and extended their lead further with 10 minutes gone after another
great team goal. This time Inderjeet got himself on the score
sheet. Plashets' sheer passing and movement undid the Saffron
Walden defence on this occasion as there were quick one, two
exchanges as well passing around the defenders in triangles. Once
in the D Inderjeet exchanged another one, two with Sant before
flicking the ball into the empty net. Saffron Walden did raise
their game and come at Plashet thereafter and won themselves a
flurry of short corners; however they were unable to convert any
of them as they were given no time to shoot by the Plashet
'runners' or just ran out of ideas to convert. With the game
nearing an end, Sant scored once again through another well worked
goal which Plashet managed to pass around the Saffron Walden shot
stopper, through some neat interchanges and movement. In the dying
moments of the game, Saffron Walden did manage to get a
consolation through a short corner as the ball was not cleared on
this occasion, the Saffron Walden striker managed to scoop the
ball over the already floored Plashet keeper to end the game 5- 1.
A good result for Plashet, however there were
many squandered chances that could potentially cost them if they
fail to convert in a closely contested game.
